Every day should be Mother’s Day because moms make the world go around. Moms sure are the heart of The Art Truck and without you, well, we wouldn’t go anywhere. We’re so grateful to all of our Art Truck moms for inviting us to your important celebrations these last six years and wanted to share some creative ideas for celebrating Mother’s Day. So, we scoured the state to find great places to visit and asked one of our own Art Truck moms to share a few of her ideas with you.
Visit Local Sites
Connecticut offers world-class museums, nature centers, seaside adventures and amusements and many offer free admission to Moms on Mother’s Day. Here are our top 5 picks for great places to visit on Mother’s Day:

Have a Photoshoot with your Loved Ones
Do you enjoy photography? If you enjoy photography, visit one of Connecticut’s beautiful state parks or beaches. Bring a picnic lunch and have everyone try to find different ways of looking at nature through a camera: zoom in, climb on a rock, look up into the trees and don’t forget to take a family selfie to remember your day. Try using an instant camera like Fuji for instant family fun!
Create a Family Comic Strip
Consider starting a new tradition this year by creating a family comic strip. It’s inexpensive and fun. Take a long sheet of paper and draw three or four large squares next to one another, so it looks like a comic strip. Then think of something funny that happened this past year, and work together to illustrate it with pencils, markers, crayons, or paints. Be sure to include a title, date, and dialogue. Each year, add a new comic strip and then you can compile all of your strips into your own family comic book.
Plant a Terrarium
This is a great activity for all ages. Fill a glass bowl with three layers of colored sand, add a layer of dirt, plant mini succulents and cover dirt with mosses and rocks. Embellish with plastic dinosaurs, beads, tiny trees or anything that strikes your fancy! Supplies are inexpensive and available at Dollar Tree stores.
However you decide to spend the day, The Art Truck team wishes you a joyful, creative Mother’s Day!
